It is reported in Bukhari and Muslim that Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "The reward for each deed done by the children of Adam is multiplied, and the reward given is between 10 and 700 times greater. Allah Ta'ala says, "Except for fasting. Because a person that fasts is giving up his desires and giving up food for Me. There are two joys for the person that fasts. The first is when he breaks his fast in the evening and the second is when he shall meet his Lord." The smell of the breath of one who is fasting is more liked by Allah Ta'ala than Musk (fragrance) and fasting is a restriction. When one of you is fasting, do not partake in idle chat and do not cause disturbance. If someone swears at you, tell that person that you are fasting."

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam) was the most generous amongst all the people and his generosity was most evident in the month of Ramadaan, at the time when he used to meet with Jibraeel alaihis salaam, and he would meet with Jibraeel (alaihis salaam) on every night of Ramadaan and recite the Quran. When the Prophet (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam) used to meet with Jibraeel (alaihis salaam), he used to be even more generous than excessive wind.”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah radiallaho ta'ala anhu narrates, Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam prayed the khutbah and then said, "I swear by Him in whose control is my life." He said this three times and then lowered his blessed head, so the companions also lowered their heads and started crying. We did not know why Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam had taken an oath. Then Rasool Allah sallalaho alaihe wasallam raised his blessed head, there was rays of happiness on his blessed face and he said, "The person that prays all five Namaz, fasts in Ramadhan, and pays the Zakat on his wealth, and saves himself from large sins (Kabeera Gunah), the doors of paradise are opened for him and he is told to enter paradise with peace."

Hazrat Ibn E Abbas radiallaho ta'ala anhuma narrates that the Master of Madinah sallalaho alaihe wasallam said, "When the people that fast get out of their graves on the day of judgement, the sweet smell of musk (fragrance) will be coming out of their mouths. A table spread from paradise will be placed before them on which they will eat and they will all be under the shade of the Throne of Allah Ta'ala (Arsh)."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Hazim ibn Dinar from Sahl ibn Saad As-Saidi that the Messenger of Allah ( Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) said: "People will remain in good [in peace and prosperity] as long as they are quick to break the fast.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger pbuh.gif as saying, "Every (good) deed a son of Adam does will be multiplied, a good deed receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward. Allah has said, "With the exception of fasting, for it is done for my sake and I give a reward for it. One abandons his passion and his food for my sake. The one who fasts has two occasions of joy, one when he breaks his fast and one when he meets his Lord. The bad breath of one who fasts is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk. Fasting is a protection (i.e. from acts of disobedience in this world and from Hell in the next), and when the day of the fast of any of you comes he must not use vile languages or raise his voice and if anyone reviles him or tries to fight with him he should tell him he is fasting, "(Bukhari Sharif, Muslim Sharif)

When the angel Gabriel asked the Prophet ( Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) about Islam, he replied: “Islam is to bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to pay charity, to fast the month of Ramadan, and to perform pilgrimage to the House if you are able to make the journey.”
